Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES)

International Intern

The International Intern will work closely with Fellows and Senior Managers on the International team on C2ES’s priority areas for delivering on the objectives of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
 

This work includes: the global stocktake, adaptation, loss and damage, biodiversity, agriculture, carbon markets, finance, just transitions, nonparty stakeholders, mitigation, transparency and accountability. There will be some scope to focus the internship on areas of the work of the international team in order to accommodate the particular interests of the intern, subject to organizational needs.
 

Responsibilities for the internship, will include but are not limited to:

  • independent research on topics related to the UNFCCC
  • supporting written reports, briefs, blogs, and presentations
  • supporting event organization and logistics
  • participating in or attending webinars and in-person events in DC, if circumstances allow
  • virtual support during the UNFCCC intersessional meetings in June
  • a blog post on the C2ES website on an international climate issue

Qualifications

  • Completed a bachelor’s degree or higher (with a preference given to graduate students) in a field related to the work of C2ES.
  • Familiarity with international environmental agreements, particularly the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement
  • Strong writing, editing, research, and analytic skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence
  • Multicultural awareness and experience in multicultural settings
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with an eye toward solutions
  • Willingness to learn and pitch in
  • Ability to work independently while responsive to oversight and guidance
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • English fluency; other languages a strong plus
  • Interest in communications and social networks.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Skilled at use of MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint and virtual work tools (MS Teams, Zoom, etc.).

Timeline

Week 1 (1-5 June): Onboarding and Orientation  introduction to C2ES, the International team, and relevant tools and frameworks. UNFCCC topical readings

Weeks 2–3 (8-19 June): UNFCCC 64th Subsidiary Body meetings (SB64) – Virtual support and UNFCCC negotiation tracking.

Week 4 (22 June – 26 June): Synthesis of SB64 outcomes – Assist with summary materials.

Weeks 5–7 (29 June-17 July): Start deep dive research on topic.

Week 8 (20-24 July): Depending on schedule attend C2ES all-staff “fly-in” week in DC (if applicable); participate in strategic discussions.

Week 9 (27-31 July): Begin drafting blog based on internship research. Continue deep dive research.

Weeks 10–11 (3-14 August): Continue research contributions, finalize any written materials or publications.

Week 12 (17-21 August): Publish final blog on C2ES website; deliver final presentation to the International Team.
