About the Program

Each selected Bekenstein Climate Leaders intern receives a $15,000 stipend for their 12-week internship.

The Bekenstein Climate Leaders Program Summer Internships were launched in 2024 as part of a larger initiative at Yale University to support master’s students from Yale’s professional graduate schools who are preparing for leadership careers in climate change mitigation. The Climate Leaders Program is made possible through a generous gift to the Yale School of Environment (YSE) from Joshua and Anita Bekenstein.

For the summer of 2025, the Climate Leaders Internships will support 25 twelve-week, full-time (30+ hours/week) internships at selected nonprofit organizations and government agencies. The usual time period for each internship is from June 2 to August 22. Each internship must address specific climate mitigation issues and solutions with an eye towards contributions that can significantly decrease greenhouse gas emissions from identified sources.

During the summer, the Bekenstein interns will receive additional training, career development services, and opportunities to share issues and lessons learned with each other, and with the collected supervisors and mentors from the employer hosts as a group.
