Summer 2025 ACT Bekenstein Fellow
The Bekenstein Fellow at ACT (The Alliance for Climate Transition) will play a pivotal role in addressing one of the most pressing barriers to local decarbonization: misinformation surrounding transportation policies and initiatives. In light of recent federal changes, our focus is shifting to the state and local levels, where municipalities have significant opportunities to decarbonize through sustainable transportation strategies. Over the course of 12 weeks, the Fellow will:
- Investigate misinformation narratives related to local transportation decarbonization efforts through interviews, surveys, and research across key stakeholders, including policymakers, transportation experts, and community leaders.
- Debunk misinformation using evidence-based research, data analysis, and credible sources to create clear, digestible content that counters false narratives.
- Create a process to estimate the potential impact of a specific State level campaign to counter misinformation on reducing emissions and a methodology to monitor progress.
- Develop data-driven entries for ACT’s Misinformation Tracker, contributing to a growing resource that combats misleading claims and supports local climate action.
- Produce a final report or presentation summarizing key findings, recurring themes in misinformation, and actionable recommendations for combating these narratives effectively.
- Other tasks as assigned by the VP Communications.
The Fellow will have the opportunity to work both independently and collaboratively, receiving guidance from senior staff while contributing original insights and analysis. This project directly supports ACT’s overarching mission to foster informed decision-making and accelerate climate solutions at the community level.
In addition, the Fellow will meet regularly with their supervisor for coaching and to provide updates. The Fellow is also invited to attend weekly ACT staff meetings and participate in ACT events.
